Known as Two-Spot Red Snapper by FAO, the Red
Snapper is an important food and game fish throughout its range.
Catch data are not detailed, but the species is
known to be widely caught in subsistence fisheries.

Eating Qualities : Red Snapper
has moist, well flavoured meat with a pinkish color.
Large specimens from reef areas in the western
Pacific sometimes have ciguatera toxin. The species is not a recommended
food for that reason.
Highlights : Readily identified
by the deep groove from the nostrils to the front of the eyes, the Red
Snapper is generally found on coral reefs where it must be caught with
handlines. It is a fine eating fish, but the size and status of the
resource is not known.
